RFID-Enabled Mining Cables Now Shipping!

Nexans AmerCable, the leader in mining cable innovation, is pleased to introduce our newest value-added cable enhancement – RFID-enabled SHD-GC mining cables. RFID technology is widely used in a variety of applications, but this is a first for mining power cables. How does it work? An extremely small string of passive RFID chips is woven into the cable's core prior to jacketing. With a scanner and the Nexans Smart Inventory Management (SIM) app, customers can get real-time cable identification plus access to repair manuals, technical data, repair history and other key information to help their cable management program.

At our February group meeting in Knoxville, Tennessee, we announced that our mining team had been recognized as Nexans Remarkable People 2019 award recipients. We delayed this announcement until the group came together because most of its members are located throughout the United States and Canada.

Founded in 1994, Meglab is headquartered in Val-d’Or, Quebec, and manufactures, repairs and services electrical equipment for mining and industrial applications. To expand the services they offer, Meglab has successfully completed the high level of training required to be certified as an AmerCable Tiger® Brand Repair Center.
